Awardees EUREGIO Young Scientists’ Award

Dr. Can Tepeköylü and Dr. Daniela Lobenwein were awarded at the “European Forum Alpbach Meeting 2016“ with the “EuRegio Young Scientists’ Award” for their work on Shock wave treatment for the regeneration of spinal cord ischemia.

Annual Meeting of the Austrian Cardiology Society (ÖKG) / Wolfgang Denk Preis

June 30, 2016

The Annual Meeting of the Austrian Society of Cardiology („Jahrestagung der Österreichischen Kardiologischen Gesellschaft“) took place in Salzburg from 1st – 4th June 2016. The CARE Lab contributed to the meeting with poster presentations, oral presentations and chairing of sessions. We are very happy to announce that Daniela Lobenwein and Can Tepeköylü were awarded with the renown „Wolfgang Denk-Preis“ ᅠ(Austrian Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery) for their publication dealing with the regeneration of ischemic spinal cord injury by shock waves.

“Long Night of Research” – Lange Nacht der Forschung

April 30, 2016

On 22nd April “The Long Night of Research” (Lange Nacht der Forschung) took place all over Austria. The CARE Lab showcased parallel its research activities at the CCB in Innsbruck as well as on the main stage at the Heldenplatz in Vienna. Visitors had the chance to try shock waves on themselves and to learn about cardiac regeneration.

4th ISMST Basic Research Meeting, Vienna, Austria

March 30, 2016

On the 4th-5th March the 4th ISMST Basic Research Meeting was held at the Austrian Workers’ Compensation Board in Vienna. More than 100 participants from Europe, Asia and America participated in the meeting. Numerous abstracts about shock wave mechanisms and novel effects were presented. The meeting contained highly interesting keynote lectures about “Purinergic Signaling” (Wolfgang Junger, Boston, USA), “Micro-Particles” (Sean Davidson, London, UK), “Stem Cell Aging” (Günther Lepperdinger, Salzburg, Austria) and “Biophysical Signals” (Carlo Ventura, Bologna, Italy). The CARE Lab was part of the organizing committee of the meeting and contributed five abstract presentations.

Best Abstract Award: Integrated Mangement of acute and chronic cardiovascular disease

January 30, 2014

picture-ismst-congress-shockwave-research-meeting-02After a presentation of our current work on the shock waves working mechanism in the heart our group was awarded the best abstract award in this international cardiology meeting, held in Innsbruck, Austria.

Title of the abstract:

Low-energy shock wave treatment induces angiogenesis in ischemic muscle by stimulation of Toll-like receptor 3 signalling.

3rd IMST Basic Research Meeting, Frankfurt, Germany

January 30, 2014
Together with colleagues from University Clinic Frankfurt (Patrick Paulus, MD) we have been organizers of the 3rd ISMST Basic Research Meeting. This year’s meeting brought numerous new aspects of shock wave science together. We ourselves and the participants were impressed by the high scientific level that research groups around the world meanwhile are working on in shock wave science.

A special pleasure was to have distinguished keynote speakers Stefanie Dimmeler and Andreas Zeiher, who both are leading basic and clinical researchers in the cardio field. It was a pleasure to get an insight into their amazing studies.

Besides abstract presentations our group gave two keynote lectures:

  • Can Tepeköylü: Shock waves for Tissue Engineering
  • Johannes Holfeld: Inflammation and Angiogenesis after shock wave treatment

1st prize CAST technology Award

November 30, 2013

After several weeks of looking for the most innovate business ideas in Tyrol, CAST (Center for Academic Spin off Tyrol) and transidee awarded five academic research projects with the CAST technology award on 4th November.

The submissions were reviewed by an expert jury that considered criteria such as market potential, level of innovation, competition, and economic feasibility. “We were really impressed with the extraordinary quality and the high number of submissions this year,” CAST’s new general manager Florian Becke said in a press release.

Dr. Johannes Holfeld won first prize with a therapy alternative for the regeneration of the heart muscle after a heart attack. Because of the simple application, high cost efficiency and hardly any side effects, Holfeld convinced the jury and took home the 3.000 euros cash prize.
