A joint project with the Department of Transplantation Surgery Innsbruck (Dr. Thomas Resch) received a national and an international award. The project titled “TLR3 – A novel target for the prevention of ischemia-reperfusion injury in cardiac transplantation“ received the “Young Investigator’s Award“ at the Austrotransplant Meeting 2017 in Zell am See, Austria. At the same time it was chosen as “Research Highlight“ at the highly reknown biannual international congress of the “European Society for Organ Transplantation 2017“ (ESOT) in Barcelona, Spain. In this project, we could highlight a crucial mechanism of ischemia-reperfusion injury in heart transplantation. At the same time, we could reveal a novel target for the attenuation of ischemia reperfusion injury, thereby improving organ quality.
